There’s so much to love about Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge that a “top 5” or “top 10” list might not be long enough, so we decided to come up with just a few things that we love about the AKL.
The first thing on our “what we love” list has to be the themeing of the resort. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is quite possibly the most unique of all the Walt Disney World Resort. From the moment you see the resort’s sign you know you’re in for a spectacular experience at the resort.
The lobby is breathtaking, the pools are incredible, and there’s no where else on property where you can see animals from your room balcony. (OK, maybe you’ll see a some native wildlife as some of the resorts, but we’re talking about giraffes and zebras here!).
And this brings us to the rooms. Sure, the rooms at the AKL are your “basic” deluxe resort rooms (unless of course you’re in a DVC villa) until you walk out on your balcony. If you were lucky enough (or wise enough) to book a savanna view room you might never want to leave. Seriously. You might want to stay on your balcony for hours just watching the African wildlife walk around the savannah.
There’s nothing quite like the experience of waking up to in the morning and seeing a giraffe right outside your room.
And as much as you’ll want to stay in your room, we suggest leaving for a while because you don’t want to miss the dining options at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We love Boma for their delicious and unique buffet and we’re a huge fan of their breakfast – get the french toast bread pudding, you’ll thank us later.
Dinner at Jiko is always on our “must do” dining list when we’re at the resort, as is a meal at Sanaa. The bread service (and butter chicken!) are two of our favorites. And, if you can make it to Sanaa to celebrate your birthday, we recommend it!
The other things we love about the AKL include the amazing pools at Jambo House and the Kidani Village, the incredible African art throughout the resort, and the list of activities for young and old assuring that you’ll never be bored at this resort.
